Book Marketing Services: What Christian Authors Should Know Before Hiring Help

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." - 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV

"By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left." - 2 Corinthians 6:7 KJV

If you have found yourself searching for book marketing services, can I encourage you with something first? Take a deep breath.

You do not have to rush this decision. Your book is not "just another product." It is the result of countless prayers, late nights, tears, revisions, and obedience. Whether you have already published or you are still staring at a blinking cursor on page one, your message deserves to be stewarded with wisdom.

That means before you hire a publisher, marketing company, coach, or freelancer (including us), I believe you should slow down, pray, ask questions, and seek God's direction. Not because people in this industry are all bad, but because your calling is too important to hand over without discernment.

I Know What It's Like to Feel Completely Lost

There was a season of my life when I was not thinking about publishing companies or business plans. I was simply trying to survive.

After leaving an abusive relationship, I called a friend and asked if she would help me move out while he was at work. Within a matter of hours, I had packed up my life and moved back in with my mom and younger siblings.

For the next year, I slept on her couch. Later, she had a room built for me in her garage where I lived until I met my husband two year later.

Only a few weeks after leaving that relationship, I was academically suspended from college. Friends I trusted chose his side. It felt like everything I had built had fallen apart.

If you have ever experienced a season where it seemed like your life unraveled faster than you could rebuild it, I understand. Looking back now, I can see something I couldn't see then. God wasn't finished with my story. He was rebuilding me. Not all at once. Not overnight. One faithful step at a time.

My Calling Didn't Begin With a Business

Years later, I published my own book. Like many first-time authors, I was excited, hopeful, and trusted the professionals I hired. Unfortunately, my publishing experience was not what I had hoped it would be. Instead of feeling supported, I found myself asking questions like, "There has to be a better way than this."

That disappointment became the beginning of something I never expected. I realized something incredible. God had already been preparing people around me. I had been trained in print layout and design. Heather had experience in author marketing. Cheyanne had been trained in editing.

Three different skill sets. One shared heart. Helping authors.

That's when Marilyn Jeanne Designs began to take shape...not because we thought we had all the answers, but because we had experienced firsthand how overwhelming publishing could feel. We did not want Christian women to feel like they had to figure everything out alone.

Marketing Doesn't Have to Feel Manipulative

One of the biggest fears we hear from Christian women is this: "I don't want to sound salesy." Honestly? Neither do I.

I don't believe Biblical marketing is about convincing people to buy something they don't need. I believe it is about stewardship.

If God entrusted you with a message that could encourage someone, strengthen their faith, or point them toward Christ, then sharing that message isn't self-promotion. It's obedience.

2 Corinthians 6:7 reminds us to operate "by the word of truth" and "by the power of God." That changes everything. We don't have to manipulate. We don't have to exaggerate. We don't have to chase every trend. We simply tell the truth about the work God has done and trust Him with the results.

Before You Hire Anyone, Ask These Questions

Whether you are considering Marilyn Jeanne Designs or another company, here are a few questions I encourage every Christian author to ask.

Do they care more about my calling than my wallet? A good partner wants to understand your goals before they ever recommend a service.

Do they educate me instead of creating dependence? You should leave every conversation feeling more confident, not more confused.

Do they understand my values? Your faith shouldn't be something you have to hide to work with someone.

Are they honest about what they can and can't do? No one can guarantee a bestseller. No one can promise you will go viral. Be cautious of anyone who does.

Here's What We Believe at Marilyn Jeanne Designs

We are not interested in being the biggest publishing company. We are interested in being faithful.

Do we have everything figured out? No. And I want to be honest about that.

We are still growing. We are still refining our systems. We are still learning how to serve our clients even better. I do not believe perfection is what builds trust. Integrity does.

If something can be improved, we improve it. If we make a mistake, we own it. If there's a better way to serve our authors, we work toward it.

My goal has never been to build a business that looks perfect from the outside. My goal is to build one that honors Christ on the inside. Because at the end of the day, I'm not just a business owner. I'm a wife. I'm a homeschooling mom to two amazing boys. I'm someone who still wrestles with balance.

And if I'm being transparent, balance doesn't come naturally to me. I often feel like I have to give everything in my life one hundred percent all of the time. I want to be the best wife. The best mom. The best business owner. The best friend. The best daughter. The best ministry leader. And if you have ever felt that pressure too, you know how exhausting it can become.

God has been teaching me that faithfulness isn't about doing everything perfectly. It is about being obedient with what He's placed in front of me today. That lesson has shaped the way we serve our authors. Because I know many of you are carrying the same weight. You're raising children. Working a job. Serving in church. Caring for family. Trying to write the book God placed on your heart.

You don't need someone adding pressure. You need someone willing to come alongside you with wisdom, encouragement, and a realistic plan.

If You're Feeling Stuck...

Maybe you're wondering if your book is even good enough. Maybe you have been burned by a previous publishing experience. Maybe you are overwhelmed by marketing. Or maybe you simply don't know what your next step should be.

Can I encourage you?

You don't have to figure it all out today. James 1:5 tells us that if we lack wisdom, we can ask God, and He gives generously.

That's why we offer a FREE Author Growth Strategy Call. Not because we want to pressure you into becoming a client. Honestly, that's NOT the purpose. It's a conversation. A chance to hear your story. To talk about your goals. To help you think through your next faithful step.

If working with Marilyn Jeanne Designs makes sense, wonderful. If it doesn't, we will still do our best to point you toward helpful resources and encourage you along the way.

Because our mission has never been simply to publish books. Our mission is to help Christian women steward the message God has entrusted to them with wisdom, excellence, and faith.

And if that is where you are today, we would be honored to walk alongside you.
